Installation questions

1. What are the costs involved in installing a basic prepaid meter?

All our solutions are designed to fit seamlessly into your life, so there are only two costs that apply:

  1. Purchasing the meter from YOUtility, a retailer or reseller, and
  2. The amount charged by a certified electrician or plumber for installation.

YOUtility does not charge any connection fees.


2. Can I do my own installation?
Working with electricity, water and natural gas is risky business, so you should never install your own meter(s). We strongly urge you to seek the assistance of a certified, registered and qualified technician.

3. Can I replace my main meter with a YOUtility meter?
Because YOUtility’s meters are specially designed to work with your municipal, Eskom or gas provider meter(s), you can’t replace them with a YOUtility meter. Your YOUtility meter must be installed downstream from the above-mentioned meters, and must be done by a qualified, certified or registered technician. After installation, contact us (email servicedesk@youtility.co.za or call 086 122 0244) and we will register and activate it on your smart meter management system.

4. How do I activate my meter?
After it has been installed by a qualified technician, it needs to be registered with YOUtility’s system. Once the meter has been registered and activated, it will be ready to accept tokens.
